Conference at the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Foreign Ministry
On March 31, 2016, representatives of IOM Moscow took part in a scientific and master's conference on the topic: "The current migration situation and the main activities of the International Organization for Migration", which was organized by the Department of International Law of the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia. On the part of the Diplomatic Academy, the conference was attended by undergraduates in the field of study "International Public Law" of the first and second years of study and postgraduate students of the Department of International Law.
Presentations from IOM Moscow staff were presented at the conference. The main topics of the reports were related to the international legal framework for regulating modern migration and the status of the IOM as an international intergovernmental organization, a description of the IOM programmes operating in Russia and other countries of the world, and the specifics of projects to prevent human trafficking. The content of the presentations aroused great interest among the audience and was distributed among them in the form of independent electronic presentations.
IOM representatives, in turn, suggested that undergraduates and graduate students hold a scientific discussion on the issues of the current migration influx of forced migrants from the countries of the Middle East and North Africa to the territory of the EU member states, taking into account opportunities and prospects its international legal regulation. Undergraduates V. Sukovitsyn, A. Smagulova, A. Teltaev, I. Trifonova, I. Yakovlev and A. Topchiy actively substantiated their position in the discussion.
All participants of the conference expressed their opinion about the importance of such professional discussions for expanding knowledge in the field of international law and humanitarian activities of intergovernmental organizations. The organizers of the conference were Professor of the Department of International Law A. Yastrebova and Senior Lecturer of the Department of International Law I. Anisimov, who prepared agenda and trained students on the topics of reports and discussions.
