International Round-Table “Enhancement of Cooperation among Competent Bodies of International Global and Regional Organizations in Combating Human Trafficking”
An international round-table on the “Enhancement of cooperation Among Competent Bodies of International Global and Regional Organizations in Combating Human Trafficking” was held on the 23rd and 24th of May 2012 by IOM Moscow and the Secretariat of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
This round-table brought together the heads of law enforcement bodies of the CSTO Member-States engaged in combating human trafficking; representatives of competent statutory bodies and bodies of sectoral cooperation in the Commonwealth of Independent States; the Eurasian Economic Community; relevant entities of the United Nations; the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe; the Department of Defense and the Department of Justice of the United States.
The key discussion of this event centered around the issues and challenges of improving cooperation between the competent bodies of international global and regional organizations in combating human trafficking. As stated by the Chief of Mission of IOM Moscow Zlatko Zigic “The combination of accumulated knowledge and experience of IOM in prevention of human trafficking and high anti-criminal potential and political will of CSTO Member-States could not but lead to a synergetic effect in action against the modern slavery”. The round-table participants noted the high importance of cooperation between CSTO Member-States and IOM in counteracting human trafficking. Prospects of further joint action and the implementation of specific activities and the establishment of effective mechanisms for coordination and collaboration were discussed.
The results of the round-table were formalized in the final protocol of the international round-table “Enhancement of cooperation Among Competent Bodies of International Global and Regional Organizations in Combating Human Trafficking”.
