Moscow – On May 28, 2019, representatives of IOM Moscow met with representatives of the General Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation. The meeting was also attended by the representatives of the University of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Russian Federation.

At the beginning of the meeting, Petr Gorodov, Deputy Head of the General Department of International Legal Cooperation of the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Russian Federation, mentioned that the Prosecutor’s Office is actively working in the field of irregular migration and human trafficking, taking into consideration the UN, ILO, Council of Europe, OSCE conventions, and the CIS Programme. Representatives of the General Prosecutor’s Office actively participate in international events organized by the UN, OSCE, Council of Europe, as well as IOM.

Representatives of the University of the Prosecutor's Office noted that interaction with IOM has been fruitful over the years, but given that international legislation and law enforcement practice is changing, it is important for the University to monitor these changes and the University is interested in receiving information about the legislation of foreign states in the field of irregular migration and human trafficking, as well as in conducting a comparative legal analysis in this area.

IOM Moscow Chief of Mission, Abdusattor Esoev, updated about the activities of the International organization for migration, on the history of interaction between the organizations on issues related to combating human trafficking and irregular migration, as well as on the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration. IOM Moscow Chief of Mission noted that one of the most important and vital areas of cooperation between the International organization for migration and the General Prosecutor's Office is combatting modern forms of slavery and exploitation.

At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed on key areas for strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation, including conducting a comprehensive review of legislation and law enforcement practices of a number of foreign countries in the field of irregular migration and trafficking in persons, and agreed to maintain close working contacts.
