World TB Day 2012
On March 22, 2012, RIA Novosti hosted a press conference dedicated to World TB Day, organized by the Ministry of Health and Social Development of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation, the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences and the World Health Organization.
Tuberculosis is an infectious bacterial disease that most commonly affects the lungs and spreads through the air. According to WHO statistics, about one billion of the world's population are carriers of tuberculosis bacilli, which can subsequently lead to infection with tuberculosis. Russia ranks 11th in a list of 22 countries with a high incidence of tuberculosis.
As part of the press conference Head of the medical section of IOM Moscow I.E. Kazanets in his speech stressed the need for better coverage of mobile populations and migrants in TB control programs.
